Plastic Manufacturers

There are many types of plastic manufacturing available and it all depends on the process you are looking for which might be determined by the size of your component or product of it maybe because of the use that your product or component is being used for. Perhaps this is too simple of a blog for some of you but to be honest with you after being a buyer for 9 years it is always good to be educated in different processes and to learn as much as possible about what is available not only for strength and dependability but for cost purposes. So let’s take a look at the many different plastic manufacturing process and get a brief description of each one shall we?
Injection Molding – is the process of manufacturing plastic products by injecting material into a mold. Injection molding can be done with many different materials; glass, metals, elastomers but primarily it is thermoplastic or thermosetting polymers. Material for a part is sent into a heated barrel where it is mixed and sent into the mold cavity where it then cools and hardens to the configuration of the mold. Like I said the primary material is plastics and this is probably one of the most common processes for making plastic parts or components.
Blow Molding – is the process in which hallow plastic parts are formed. Blow molding usually consists of 3 types of blow molding; extrusion blow molding, injection blow molding, and stretch blow molding. The process starts with melting down the plastic and forming it in a preform. The preform is a tube like piece of plastic with a hole in one end in which compressed air passes through. The preform is then clamped into the mold of the part and air is pumped into it. The air then pushes the plastic out to match the form of the mold. Once the plastic cools and hardens, the mold opens up and the part drops out.
Rotomolding (Rotational Molding) – is the process in which you have a heated hollow mold which is filled with material. It is then slowly rotated causing the softened plastic material to stick to the walls of the mold.
Extruding – is the process in which plastic material is drawn through a die of across sectional profile.
This is just some simple information to give you an idea of the many different processes for manufacturing plastic products available and if you have an interest in learning more about what process might be best for your product or component why not contact us at United Global Sourcing, Inc.?
