Die casting die design is an iterative manual process
requiring
experience, domain knowledge, and problem-solving skills.
This is also very time-consuming work when using
traditional
CAD tools (such as Pro-Engineer or Unigraphics) which are
good at performing detailed design tasks, but provide few
benefits for taking advantage of the previous design
experience
and resources. Furthermore, the quality of the final die
design
depends very much on the skills of the designer, as it
requires
extensive knowledge of material, machines, and the
operations
required to produce a die. However, applying the
computer-
aided design (CAD) technology is widely seen as an
alternative method.
